Fish Passages
We are immensely proud of the role that we are privileged enough to play in supporting and restoring New Zealand’s native fish species.
We have over 50 species of native freshwater fish in Aotearoa that need to travel up and down streams and rivers, between habitats, and even to and from the sea to complete their lifecycles. Urban development and manmade structures like culverts, weirs and other stormwater assets have the potential to act as barriers to fish migration and already threaten the survival of nearly 70% of New Zealand’s fish species.
Glasgow Contractors work closely with local council, communities and iwi to remediate fish passages in streams and rivers by installing fish ladders, culvert fish baffles, newbury rock riffles, flow modifiers and natural rock ramps that remove fish barriers and allow fish to better travel up and down streams.
